Chap. 221.—An ACT to protect certain fish in the bays, creeks, inlets and streams
tributary to the Potomac river, in the State of Virginia.
Approved March 15, 1904.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be unlawful to capture or kill any of the species of fish known as black
bass, green bass, chub, crappie, calico, or strawberry bass, by means of
any haul seine, drag net, pouch net, or any other device hauled from and
landed on the shore, or hauled from any other place, or contrivance, and
landed on the shore or elsewhere from the first day of November to the
first day of March, in any of the bays, creeks, inlets, and streams tribu-
tary to the Potomac river, in the State of Virginia, in Tidewater or
above Tidewater, or to kill any of said species of fish by means of ex-
plosives, drugs or poisons, at any time in any of the aforesaid waters:
provided, that the provisions of this act shall not apply to fishing in any
of said waters within the county of Prince William.
2. Any person or persons violating any of the provisions of this act
shall, on conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not less than five
dollars nor more than fifty dollars, or by confinement in jail for a
period not exceeding thirty days for each and every offence so com-
mitted, at the discretion of the justice or jury who shall try such cases. ~
