Chap. 217.—An ACT to authorize the governor of Virginia to lease such rooms
and offices as may be necessary for the transaction of the public business by
the governor, secretary of the Commonwealth, register of the land office, the
public printer, the commissioner of labor, the clerk of the house of delegates,
and keeper of the rolls, and any other official having offices in the capitol build-
ing, or any of them, and for the storage of public property and records, so far
as such rooms or offices may be necessary during the time occupied in the en-
largement, renovation and repair of the State capitol building, and appro-
priating money to pay the rentals thereof.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the gover-
nor of the State be, and he is hereby, authorized and empowered to lease,
for the term of two years, such rooms and offices as may be necessary for
the transaction of the publié business by the governor, secretary of the
Commonwealth, register of the land office, public printer, commissioner
of labor, the clerk of the house of delegates and keeper of the rolls, or
any other official having offices in the capitol building, or any of them,
and for the storage of public property amd records, so far as such rooms
and offices may be necessary during the enlargement, renovation, and
repair of the State capitol building, at such rental as he may agree upon.
The removal of such offices, with their furniture and records, shall be
made under the supervision ‘and direction of their respective heads, and
the costs of such removal shall be paid out of the money hereinafter
appropriated, upon warrant signed by such head of department, ap-
proved by the treasurer.
%. Such sum of money as may be necessary to pay such rental and
removal of offices, and so forth, is hereby appropriated out of any money
in the treasury not otherwise ‘appropriated, and the said rentals to be
paid by the treasurer upon the warrant of the auditor, approved by the
governor.
3. Inasmuch as an emergency exists by reason of the fact that the
enlargement, renovation, and repair of the capitol building is to be begun
as soon as practicable after the adjournment of this session of the gen-
eral assembly, this act shall be in force from its passage.
