Chap. 155.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 131 of an act entitled an act
to provide a new charter for the city of Bristol, approved March 5, 1900, and to
repeal sections 132 and 133 thereof.
Approved March 14, 1904.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section one
hundred and thirty-one of an act entitled an act to provide a new char-
ter for the city of Bristol, etc., approved March fifth, nineteen hundred,
be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 131. It shall be the duty of the attorney for the city to prepare all
bonds, contracts, deeds, and instruments of writing which may be re-
quired of him by any ordinance or order of the council (to institute and
prosecute all suits which shall be directed by said council); to defend
the city in all suits, which may be brought against it or against any
officer or agent which may involve or affect its interests, whether the
said suits be conducted in or out of the city, when so directed by said
council; to attend to any warrants or other proceeding before the mayor
or the corporation court of the city touching any claim or right of the
city; to furnish the council and their committees a written opmion on
any subject which they may submit to him, and to give assistance and
advice touching their duties to the committees of the council and the
officers of the city when they shall apply to him, and to render to the
city such other professional services as the council may require of him.
2. Sections one hundred and thirty-two and one hundred and thirty-
three of said act are hereby repealed.
