Chap. 112.—An ACT to make the 5th day of April, 1904, being the day selected
for the launching of the battleship “Virginia,” a legal holiday in this State.
Approved March 12, 1904.
Whercas, the battleship, to be named “Virginia,” is nearing comple-
tion at Newport News, Virginia, and the fifth day of April, nineteen hun-
dred and four, has been selected and designated as the date for the
launching thereof; and,
Whereas, it is fitting and appropriate that we should show our appre-
ciation of the naming of said ship in honor of this State; and, =
Whereas, a considerable number of our citizens would be deprived of
the opportunity of attending the launching of the “Virginia” except for
this act of the legislature; now, therefore, :
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the fifth
day of April, nineteen hundred and four, the date selected for the launch-
ing of the battleship “Virginia,” be, and the same is hereby, declared a
legal holiday throughout this State, and to be observed as such in all
respects as any other legal holiday. |
2. A necessity existing for this bill to become a law prior to the date
prescribed in the Constitution, an emergency is declared to exist, and this
act shal] become a law from the date of its passage. |
