Chap. 321.—An ACT to require clerks of circuit courts of counties and corpora
tion or hustings courts of cities to send to the secretary of the Commonwealtl
certified lists of county, district, and city oflicers, and to provide a penalty for
failure to do so.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the clerk of
the circuit court of each county and the clerk of the corporation or hust-
ings court of each city, shall annually, in the month of January, send te
the secretary of the Commonwealth a list of all county, district, and city
officers of their respective counties and cities. When a vacaney occurs ir
any county, district, or city office said clerks shall notify the secretary o!
the Commonwealth within ten days, and shall likewise notify the said
secretary of the election or appointment and qualification of any officer te
fill such vacancy within ten days after the qualification of such officer.
2. All such lists and notices sent to the seerctary of the Commonwealt}
shall give the date of election or appointment and qualification of officer
the beginning and end of their terms of office, and shall be certified by
the. judge of the court under seal of the court, and attested by the clerk.
3. For the services required of them by this act said clerks shall re-
ceive fees, payable out of their respective county and city treasuries, as
follows—viz.: For making and certifying a complcte list of officers, onc
dollar; for certifying a vacancy, twenty cents, and for certifying an ‘elec.
tion or appointment and qualification to fill a vacaney, twenty ‘cents.
4. Any clerk who fails to comply with the provisions of this act shall
be fined not less than five dollars nor more than twenty-five dollars.
5. It shall be the duty of the judge of cach circuit, corporation, or
hustings court to sce that the provisions of this act are complicd with.
6. This act shall be in force on and after July first, nineteen hundred
and three.
