Chap. 53.—An ACT to provide for the issue of bonds for the payment of the
balance of the contract price for paving Washington avenue and Twenty-fifth
street, Newport News.
Approved January 27, 1903.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That in addition
to the present indebtedness of the city of Newport News and the certifi-
eates of debt or bonds which the council of the said city is otherwise au-
thorized by law to issue. the common council of the said: city may, in the
name and for the use of the said city, cause to be issued certificates of
debt or bonds (the form of which shall be prescribed by the council), in
the amount of fiftv-six thousand dollars, payable in United States cur-
reney, bearmg a rate of interest not exceeding six per centum per annum,
and pavable. in the diserction of the council, in not less than twenty nor
more than forty vears from them date: provided, however, that the money
arising frem the sale of said bonds chal be used and applied by said city
to the payment of any indebtedness if may have incurred and remaining
unpaid, in the paving heretofore done on Washington avenue and ‘'wenty-
fifth street m said city.
This act shall beim force from its passage.
