Chap. 91.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 186 of the code of Vir-
ginia, in relation to the salaries of certain judges, so as to permit the
board of supervisors of Nansemond county to increase the compensation
of their circuit judge out of county funds.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
one hundred and eighty-six of the code of Virginia be amended and re-
enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 186. The sums respectively allowed by this chapter to the judge of
the seventh circuit, the judge of the chancery court of the city of Rich-
mond, the judge of the hustings court of the said city, the city judge of
Petersburg, the judge of the circuit court of Norfolk, the city judge of
said city, the city judge of Portsmouth, the city judge of Danville, and
the city judge of Lynchburg, may be increased by the respective councils
of said cities, such increase not to exceed the sum of one thousand
dollars per annum for any one of said judges, and to be paid out of the
treasuries of said cities, respectively; and the salary of the judge of the
circuit court of Nansemond county may be increased the sum of three
hundred dollars per annum, payable out of the treasury of Nansemond
county, in accordance with the resolution of the board of supervisors of
the said county, adopted on the fifth day of April, nineteen hundred.
The amount of such increase may be reduced by said councils or withheld
hy such board of supervisors in their discretion: provided, that such re-
duction shall not take effect until after the exptration of the term of
office of the judge whose compensation has been so increased.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
