Chap. 70.—An ACT authorizing the city of Norfolk to issue $15,000 bonds on
Atlantic City ward property and $10,000 on Brambleton ward property.
Approved February 12, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the coun-
cils of the city of Norfolk, for the purpose of arranging for Brambleton
and Atlantic City wards contributing their proportion towards the
erection of a new jail building in said city, and towards the acquiring
of any additional real estate necessary as a site therefor, are hereby
empowered to issue bonds not exceeding ten thousand dollars, predicated
upon the assessed valuation of real and personal property embraced in
Brambleton ward, and bonds not exceeding fifteen thousand dollars,
predicated upon the assessed valuation of real and personal property
embraced in Atlantic City ward. The said bonds shall be payable at
such time, not to exceed thirty vears from their dates, and at such rate
of interest as may be determined on by the councils. The proceeds from
the sale of said bonds shall be used for the purpose of paying in part for
the erection of a new jail building in the city of Norfolk, and for the
acquiring of any additional real estate necessary as a site therefor, and
shall be paid out of the city treasury for said purposes on resolution of
the councils of the city of Norfolk. An account of bonds issued under
this act shall be kept by the board of sinking fund commissioners, and
also by the city treasurer. ‘The amount necessary to pay the interest on
the said bonds, predicated on the assessed values in Brambleton ward,
shall be annually reserved by the city treasurer to meet said interest
as it becomes due out of the tax levied for general purposes on property
taxable in Brambleton ward, and the amount necessary to pay the interest
on the bonds, predicated on the assessed values in Atlantie City ward,
shall be annually reserved by the city treasurer to meet said interest
as it becomes due out of the tax levied for general purposes on property
taxable in Atlantic City ward. The said bonds shall not be subject to
any taxation by the city of Norfolk.
2. All acts or parts of acts in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
