Chap. 58.—An ACT to give the consent of the State of Virginia to the pur-
chase or acquisition of real estate by the United States government in
the town of Martinsville, county of Henry, Virginia, for a site for a public
building for the accommodation of the United States post-office, internal
revenue office, and any other purpose of the United States.
Approved February 9, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the consent
of the state of Virginia is hereby given and granted to the purchase or
acquisition by the government of the United States, or under the au-
thority of the same, of so much land as may, by said government, be
deemed expedient for a site for a public building for the accommodation
of the United States post-oflice, internal revenue office, and for any other
purpose of said government of the United States.
2. That this state hereby cedes to the United States of America exclu-
sive jurisdiction over such land for all purposes during the time the
United States shall be or remain the owners thereof: provided, however,
that the officers of the state of Virginia may take such cognizance, execute
such process, and discharge such other legal functions within the same
as may not be incompatible with the consent hereby given.
3. The Jand so acquired, together with the tenements and appurte-
nances for the purposes before mentioned, shall be held exempt from all
state, county and municipal taxation so long as the United States shall
be and remain the owners thereof.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
