Chap. 51.—An ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of Charlotte county
to contract for the erection and ownership by the county of a monument to
the memory of Confederate soldiers of said county, on the public square of
said county and to make payment on account of same out of the funds of
the county.
Approved February 8, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the board
if supervisors of Charlotte county be, and they are, hereby authorized
ting for and in behalf of said county of Charlotte, to contract with the
teers of HW. A. Carrington camp, number thirty-four, of Confederate
veterans, for the ercction of a monument to the memory of citizens of
‘aid county who served as soldiers in the army of the Confederate States
of America.
2. That it shall be lawful for said board to grant permission to the
Meers of said camp, number thirty-four, of Confederate veterans, to
erect said monument on the court-house square of said county; to make a
contract with said officers of said camp for the transfer of the ownership
and control of said monument to the said county of Charlotte. and to
provide by contract for and in behalf of said county that said county
‘hall undertake to preserve and keep in repair said monument.
3. It shall be lawful for said board in the execution of such contract
as they may make under the provision of this act, to pay out of the
funds of the said county of Charlotte under their control, such a sum of
money as they may deem proper, which sum shall be applied to the pay-
ment of the cost of the construction of said monument.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
