Chap. 271.—An ACT to prevent hogs or swine from running at large in War-
wick county, and provide a penalty for violation of the same.
Approved February 16, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be unlawful for the owner of any hogs or swine, or any person having
such animals in charge, to allow the same to run at large | upon the streets
or roads of the county of Warwick; and any such person who shall
intentionally permit such animals to run at large, or who, after notice
to him by any one that such animals are at large, as aforesaid, or are
accustomed to run at large, as aforesaid, shall then fail to prevent them
from running at large on any such street or road, shall be deemed guilty
of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof before any justice of the
peace for said county, shall be fined not less than one nor more than ten
dollars for each offense.
2. This act shall not be so construed as to prevent any person from al-
lowing his own hogs or swine to run at large upon that portion of anv
street or road passing through his own lands which is protected by lawful
gates.
3. The board of supervisors of Warwick county shall have the right
and are hereby authorized to exempt at any time any magisterial district
in said county, or any portion thereof, from the operation of this act,
and to fix the boundary of the territory thus exempted, as they may deem
proper, and to restore the same, or any part thereof, to the operation of
this act in their discretion.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
