Chap. 248.—An ACT to authorize and enable the Cumberland Gap water
company, incorporated under the taws cf Tennessee, to extend their water
supplies to the Virginia side.
Approved February 16, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the Cum-
berland Gap water company, a corporation organized under the laws of
the state of Tennessee, be, and the same is, hereby authorized to extend
its line of piping so far into Virginia as may be necessary to conduct
water into and about the town of Cumberland Gap, whether the same
be on the Virginia or Tennessee side; and for the purpose of this act
the said company shall have the same rights to acquire, by purchase or
condemnation, such lands in Virginia as may be necessary and consistent
with the charter of said company as are now granted by the laws of the
state of Virginia to companies incorporated for a work of internal im-
provement. Capital stock not to exceed four thousand dollars.
2. The rights, privileges, and franchises hereby granted are granted
upon the express condition that said company shall forever remain, in
all matter arising in this state, or arising from the exercise of any of
the rights, privileges and franchises hereby granted, subject to the courts
of Virginia and the general laws thereof.
3. This act shall take effect from its passage and be subject to amend-
ment or repeal at such time hereafter as shall be the pleasure of the
general assembly.
