cated in such districta.
Approved February 15, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the treasurer
of Norfolk county shall set aside annually one-fourth of the special road
levy for Western branch, Tanners creek and Washington districts, res-
pectively, as a sinking fund, which shall be properly invested at interest
for the purpose of purchasing the turnpikes and draw-bridges now owned
by private companies and located in said districts, respectively. And for
the purpose of carrying this act into effect the attorney for the common-
wealth is hereby directed as fast as said funds shall have accumulated to
a sufficient amount in any of the districts aforesaid, to negotiate with
such corporation as he shall be advised by the road board of Norfolk
county, for the purpose of purchasing such turnpike or draw-bridge as
may be deemed expedient, and opening the same to the public, and when
such negotiations are agreed upon by the attorney for the commonwealth
and the owner of such turnpike or draw-bridge, the same shall be reported
to the county court of Norfolk county for its approval, and when approved
by the said court, shall become final. And the treasurer shall then be
authorize to pay the amount agreed upon, out of the fund in hand for
the district in which said turnpike or draw-bridge is located, and said
turnpike or draw-bridge shall then be thrown open to the public use and
be thenceforth maintained by the proper road officers of Norfolk county.
