Chap. 15.—An ACT to authorize the town of Chase City to borrow money,
issue bonds, and own land.-
Approved February 2, 1901.
1. Be it enacted by the gencral assembly of Virginia, That the council
of the town of Chase City, Virginia, be, and it is, hereby authorized, in
the name and on behalf of said town of Chase City, to borrow money and
issue its bonds therefor, bearing interest and payable at such times as it
may determine: provided, the amount of bonds does not exceed four thou-
sand dollars, and said bonds to be signed by the mavor and clerk of coun-
cil.
2. Said council is hereby authorized to own land, and to use the money
so borrowed, or so much as it may deem necessary to build a town hall
for said town, and for water works.
3. In order to provide for the payment of the principal and interest
of the bonds so to be issued, the said council is authorized to levy a
special tax on all the property, real, personal, and all other subjects for
taxation for municipal purposes, which tax shall not exceed one-half the
taxes imposed by the town for all other purposes.
+. This act shall not be operative until the question of the issue of
said bonds shall have been submitted to the voters of said town and it
shall appear by the return of the votes cast at such election that a ma-
jority of the votes cast are in favor of the issue of the bonds as provided
in this act. The time and mode of voting to be determined by the
council.
5. All acts or parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby re-
pealed.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
