Chap. 382.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to eradicate the
San Jose or pernicious scale, a disease affecting fruit trees, and to prevent its
spread, approved March 5, 1896, as amended by an act approved February 28,
1898.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
eight of an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to eradicate
the San Jose or pernicious scale, a disease affecting fruit trees, and to
prevent its spread, approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and nincty-
six, as amended by an act approved February twenty-eighth, eighteen
hundred and ninety-eight, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
The board of supervisors of any county, and the town council or city
council of any incorporated town or city of this State, shall, upon the
recommendation of the State entomologist and the petition of ten free-
holders, appropriate from the county, town, or city treasury such funds
is may be necessary for use in said county, town, or city for the treat
ment and eradication of the above named insect pest: provided, that i
shall be distinctly stated in any such appropriation the specific object:
for which the same is to be expended, and that such treatment shall be
lone in accordance with the directions and under the authority of the
nspector hereinbefore provided for.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
