Chap. 994.—An ACT for the relief of John T. Tipton, a Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas John T. Tipton, of Culpeper county, Virginia, was a loyal
Confederate soldier, having enlisted in Randolph county, Missouri, in
December, eighteen hundred and sixty-one, the company commanded
by Alex ander" Pitney, in fourth Missouri cavalry, and lost his arm in
an engagement near "Macon € ity, Missouri, in July, eighteen hundred
and sixty-one, when he was also captured; and
Whereas by an exchange of prisoners at City Point in March, eigh-
teen hundred and sixty-two, he was released and came to Culpeper
county, Virginia, where he has since resided and been a citizen thereof ;
and
Whereas by reason of age and said loss of his arm he has become
wholly unable to perform manual labor and to support himself, and is
now a subject of charity in said county; now, therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts he. and he is hereby, directed to place the
name of John T. Tipton on the pension rolls as entitled to a pension of
fifteen dollars per annum: provided, it be first proven before the county
court of Culpeper county that the foregoing facts are true, and the
same be certified by said court to said auditor.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
