Chap. 988.—An ACT for the relief of James W. Newman, an ex-Confed
soldier.

Whereas James W. Newman, a Confederate soldier, of compar
rentieth battalion heavy artillery, was a true and gallant soldier
g the war, was loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas the said James W. Newman is now so crippled from ag
‘crepitude, by reason of said service, that he is not physically
. earn his own living; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That i
unty court of Bedford county shall examine into the conditir
ie said James W. Newman, a Confederate soldier, and should
ue that he was true and loyal to Virginia during the war. and th
now incapacitated for manual labor, and that he is needy and
1d should receive aid from Virginia, and if the county court of
rd county should send a certificate of the facts to the audit
ublie accounts of Virginia, then the auditor of public accounts
lace the name of James W. Newman upon the pension list and pa
nnually the sum of fifteen dollars.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
