Chap. 956.—An ACT for the relief of G. W. Pierce, a Confederate soldier of
Halifax county, Virginia.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas G. W. Pierce, of company F, thirty-fourth Virginia regiment,
Wise’s brigade, a disabled Confederate soldier of Virginia, was a true
and gallant soldier during the war, was loval to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now suffering from the following disability—to wit:
Blind as the result of exposure in the army and shock from explosion
of bombshell—
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Halifax shall examine into the condition of the above-
named W. G. Pierce, a Confederate soldier, and should it be that he
was true and loyal to Virginia through the war, and that he is now
afilicted and incapacitated for manual labor as the result of blindness
contracted in the war, that he is needy and poor and should receive aid
from Virginia; and if the county court of Halifax should send a certi-
ficate of the facts to the auditor of public accounts of Virginia, then
the auditor of public accounts is directed to place the name of W. G.
Pierce on the pension list and pay him annually the sum of forty
dollars, commencing on and after the first day of April, eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-seven.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
