Chap. 90.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 186 of the code of Vir-
ginia, in relation to the increase of salaries of judges of certain cities.
Approved January 16, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
one hundred and eighty-six of the code of Virginia be amended and
re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 186. The sums respectively allowed by this chapter to the judge of
the seventh circuit, the judge of the chancery court of the city of Rich-
mond, the judge of the hustings court of said citv, the city judge of
Petersburg, the judge of the circuit court of Norfolk, the city judge of
said city, the city judge of Portsmouth, the city judge of Danville, and
the city judge of Lynchburg, may be increased by the respective councils
of said cities, such increase not to exceed the sum of one thousand dollars
per annum for any one of said judges, and to he paid out of the treasuries
of said cities respectively. The amount of such increase mav be reduced
by said councils in their discretion: provided, that such reduction shall
not take effect until after the expiration of the term of office of the
judge whose compensation has been so increased.
