Chap. 895.—An ACT to amend section 848 of the code of Virginia, as amended
by an act approved March 1, 1898, entitled an act to amend and re-enact
section 848 of the code of Virginia relating to the compensation of super-
visors, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved March 2, 1892, as
amended and re-enacted by an act approved February 26, 1894, as amended
and re-enacted by an act approved March 5, 1894, as amended and
re-enacted by an act approved February 13, 1896, as amended and re-
enacted by an act approved February 14, 1896, as amended and re-enacted
by an act approved December 18, 1897, fixing the per diem and mileage of
supervisors in certain counties of the state.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
eight hundred and forty-eight of the code of Virginia, as amended and
re-enacted by an act approved March second, eighteen hundred and
ninety-two, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved February
twenty-six, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, as amended and re-
enacted by an act approved March fifth, eighteen hundred and ninety-
four, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved February thirteenth,
eighteen hundred and ninety-six, as amended and re-enacted by an act
approved February fourteenth, eighteen hundred and ninety-six, as
amended and re-enacted by an act approved December thirteenth, eigh-
teen hundred and ninety-seven, as amended and re-enacted by an act
approved March first, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, in relation
to the compensation of supervisors, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
8 848. Compensation of supervisors.—Each member of the board of
supervisors shall be allowed and paid out of the county levy a com-
pensation for his services and expenses in attending the meeting of the
beard at the rate of three dollars per diem for the time he shall
actually attend, and five cents for each mile traveled in going to or
returning from the place of meeting; but no per diem allowance shall
be made for any time occupied in traveling where mileage is allowed
therefor: provided, that but one mileage shall be allowed for any one
term of meeting of such board; and no supervisor shall be allowed to
draw pay for more than ten days’ attendance in any one vear, except in
the counties of Warren, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Hanover, where
no supervisor shall be allowed to draw pay for more than fifteen davs
in any one year: provided further, that the supervisors of the counties
of Lee, Scott, Wise, Buchanan, Floyd, Russell, and Bland shall each
receive allowance of only three dollars per day for attendance, but not
to exceed ten days in one year, except that in the county of Northamp-
ton, each supervisor may draw pay for not more than sixteen days,
and in the county of Accomac, each supervisor may draw pay for not
more than twelve days’ attendance in any one year: provided, that the
provisions of this act shall not apply to any counties where there is a
special law in relation to compensation of supervisors now in force in
such counties.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
