Chap. 866.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act for work-
ing, keeping in repair, and building the roads and bridges in Buckingham
county, approved March 4, 1896, as amended by an act entitled an act to
amend the road law of Buckingham county, approved December 22, 1897.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That an act
entitled an act for working, keeping in repair, and building the roads
and bridges in Buckingham county, approved March fourth, eighteen
hundred and ninety-six, as amended bv an act entitled an act to amend
the road laws of the county of Buckingham, approved December twenty-
second, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, be amended and re-enacted
so as to read as follows:
That the judge of the county court of Buckingham be, and he is
hereby, authorized and empowered to suspend the operation of said
acts so far as relates to the appointment, duties, powers, compensation,
and so forth, of the road superintendents for said county, and any other
portion or portions of said acts as the said judge, in his discretion,
may think proper, and authorize and empower the road engineer of said
county to have the roads of said countv worked and the bridges built
and repaired by contract or in any other manner as the said judge, in
his discretion, may think proper, under such plans and regulations as
the judge may prescribe, the costs and expenses of the same to be paid
by the treasurer of Buckingham county, on the order of the said judge,
either out of the road district funds or the county levy, as the said
judge may order. The said judge of the county court may suspend the
operation of said acts to any or all road districts in said county as he
may think proper. The said judge of the county court of Buckingham
is hereby authorized to allow the road engineer of Buckingham such
compensation for his services under this act as he may think proper,
10t to exceed the sum of three hundred dollars per annum, to be paid
m his said judge’s order on the county treasurer either out of the road
‘und or county levy, as said judge may think proper. And the said
judge for his services, under this act, shall be paid the sum of one
1undred dollars per annum on his order on the county treasurer either
put of the road fund or county levy, as said judge may think proper.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
