Chap. 846.—An ACT to validate certain contracts made and entered into by
and between the Farmville building and trust company, of Farmville, Vir-
ginia, and its members.

Whereas on the fourth day of April, eighteen hundred and seventy-
eight, a charter was granted by the judge of the circuit court for the
county of Prince Edward, in vacation, to the Farmville building and
trust company, whereby the said company was authorized to conduct
generally the business of a building and loan and trust company; which
said charter was duly recorded in the clerk’s office of the said circuit
court, as well as in the office of the secretary of the commonwealth as
required by law; and :
Whereas doubt has arisen as to whether the said circuit court judge
could, at that time, grant a charter under which such business could
be validly conducted; and there being some doubt therefore, as to the
validity and proper effect of contracts made by and between the said
company and its members prior to the passage of the act approved
March first, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, entitled “an act to
define the powers and limitations of building and loan associations ”’;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That all of
the contracts made by and between the said Farmville building and
trust company, and its members prior to the passage of the said act
of March first eighteen hundred and ninety-four, be, and they are
hereby, declared to be as valid and binding to all intents and purposes
28 it they had been made and entered into after the passage of the
said act.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage. /
