Chap. 840.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to provide
a roster of all the ex-Confederate soldiers living in the state of Virginia,
approved January 25, 1898.
Approved March 6, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
be the duty of the several commissioners of the revenue of the several
cities and counties of the commonwealth to proceed forthwith upon
proper blanks to be furnished by the auditor of public accounts, to
make a list of all ex-Confederate soldiers and sailors living in the
several cities and counties of the commonwealth, showing their re-
spective ages, ranks, to what companies and regiments attached, or in
which they served, date of enlistment or commission, and the length of
time in service, and to return a full report thereof on or before January
first, nineteen hundred and two, and annually thereafter, on January
first, to report such additional names, if any, not included in their
previous report, as they mav ascertain, to the librarian of the state,
who shall file and preserve the same among the archives of the com-
monwealth.
2. For making and filing such lists the commissioner of the revenue
shall be paid by warrant of the auditor of public accounts the sum
of three dollars for every one hundred names of said soldiers or sailors
listed thereon: provided, that for, any failure to comply with the re-
quirements of this act the commissioners of the revenue shall be
hable to a fine of not less than five nor more than ten dollars. |
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
