Chap. 790.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 2 of an act entitled an
act to authorize the superintendent of the Virginia penitentiary to lease or
purchase a farm and to erect thereon suitable buildings for the care and
employment of convicts, approved January 22, 1894, so as to provide for
an increase in the compensation of the guards at said farm.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
two of an act entitled an act to authorize the superintendent of the
Virginia penitentiary to lease or purchase a farm, and to erect thereon
suitable buildings for the care and employment of convicts, approved
January twenty-second, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 2. There shall be a surgeon for said farm appointed by the governor,
whose compensation shall be at the rate of fifty dollars per month; a
manager appointed by the governor on the recommendation of the super-
intendent, whose compensation shall be fifty dollars per month and
board, and who shall have charge of the cultivation of the farm, and
shall perform such other duties as may be assigned him, all under the
direction of the superintendent; and such guards as may be necessary,
appointed by the superintendent; their compensation shall be twenty-five
dollars per month and their board.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
