Chap. 735.—An ACT to authorize and empower Mrs. Laura C. Webb-Peploe
to dispose of certain real estate and to make valid title thereto.
Approved March 3, 1900.
Whereas by deed dated the eighteenth day of December, eighteen
hundred and ninety-one, John Dunlop, trustee, and J. H. Webb-Peploe
conveyed in fee to Laura C. Webb-Peploe, the wife of said J. H. Webb-
Peploe, certain real estate hereinbelow mentioned and described, as her
sole and separate property; and
Whereas said deed contained no power of disposition of said real estate,
and said Laura C. Webb-Peploe has been advised by her counsel that,
under the decisions of the supreme court of appeals of Virginia, she can
make no valid conveyance of said real estate, nor pass title thereto, save
pursuant to the provisions of the statute regulating the conveyances of
married women; and
Whereas compliance with the provisions of said statute is impracti-
cable in the premises, said J. H. Webb-Peploe, the husband of said
Laura C. Webb-Peploe, having left this state more than three and a half
years ago and his present whereabouts being unknown; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That said
Laura C. Webb-Peploe is hereby authorized and empowered to dispose
of the property designated as lots numbers eleven, twelve, and thirteen
in square number twenty-four in the village of Bon Air, Chesterfield
county, Virginia, or any part thereof, with the improvements thereon,
being the rea] estate hereinabove mentioned, by deed or will in like
manner and to the same effect as if she were a feme sole; and no pur-
chaser from said Laura C. Webb-Peploe shall be required to see to the
application of the purchase money or any part thereof.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
