Chap. 636.—An ACT to provide for the improvement of reads in Wythe
county.
Approved March 65, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That when
any citizen or number of citizens of the county of Wythe shall appear
before the board of supervisors of said county and deposit a sum of money
not exceeding one thousand dollars, or enter into an approved bond with
good security in the penalty of twice the amount subscribed by law,
then, for the purpose of grading and macadamizing any public road or
part of such road in said county, the board of supervisors are hereby
authorized to appropriate out of the road funds of said county, an
amount equal to the amount so subscribed, to be used for the said pur-
pose: provided, that no more than one thousand dollars shall be spent
by the county in any one district in one year.
2. The amount subscribed by such citizens, together with the corre-
sponding amount appropriated by the board of supervisors, shall be
expended under the direction of said board. The grading and macada-
mizing shall be let to contract to the lowest responsible bidder. But no
member of said board of supervisors, or of a road commission shall be
directly or indirectly interested in the contract.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
