Chap. 619.—An ACT to provide a harbor-master for the city of Newport
News, and to prescribe his jurisdiction, duties, and fees.
Approved March 5, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
corporation court of the city of Newport News, shall appoint a harbor
master for the city of Newport News, whose jurisdiction shall extend
over the waters of the harbor of the James river, opposite the city of
Newport News, and opposite the tract of land known as the West or
Newport News farm, whose duties shall be the same as those prescribed
by the general law of the state of Virginia with reference to harbor-
masters and such further duties as the appointing power may prescribe.
2. The fees of the harbor-master at Newport News shall be the same
lo
as those received by the harbor-masters of the port of Norfolk for like
services.
3. The harbor-master of Newport News, now holding office at the
time of the introduction of this bill shall continue in office for one term
of two years after this bill goes into effect.
4. All acts and parts of acts in conflict with this act are hereby
repealed.
5. This act shall be in force from July first, nineteen hundred.
