Chap. 574.—An ACT to prevent hogs from running at large in Page county.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That if any
person intentionally permit his hog or hogs to run at large upon the
public roads of Page county, he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than one dollar nor
more than five dollars for each offense, and shall, in addition, be hable
in damages for any trespass committed by such hog or hogs going upon
the cleared lands of any person from such roads, whether ‘such lands be
enclosed by a lawful fence or not.
2. It shall be no defense, in a civil or criminal proceeding under the
preceding section, if such hog or hogs got upon the public road from
unenclosed lands, ‘if the owner of such hog or hogs knowingly permitted
them to run at large upon such unenclosed lands.
