Chap. 520.—An ACT for the purpose of giving jurisdiction to the circuit
or corporation court of the city of Lynchburg, or the respective judges
thereof in vacation, power to give effect to the action of the congregation
of the Fifth-avenue church (Independent), Lynchburg, Virginia, in regard
to its church property.
Approved February 26, 1900.
1 Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That if the
circuit or corporation court of the city of Lynchburg, or the judge of
either of them in vacation, shall be satisfied that it is the wish of the
congregation of the Fifth-avenue church (Independent) of the city of
Lynchburg, Virginia, that its church property on Fifth avenue shall be
conveyed to its minister, the Reverend Joseph D. Evans, in discharge of
a moral obligation to him, arising from the fact that he contributed the
money for the purchase of the lot on which said church was built and for
building the same; the said court, or judge in vacation, may ratify
and approve said action of the congregation, order that the said property
be conveyed to said Joseph D. Evans on behalf of said congregation and
of the trustees holding said church, by a special commissioner to be
appointed for the purpose. The proceedings before said court, or judge,
to conform as far as practicable to those prescribed by section fourteen
hundred and six of the code of Virginia.
2. This act shall take effect from its passage.
