Chap. 485.—An ACT to incorporate the sons and daughters of Solomon, of
King George county, Virginia.
Approved February 21, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Samuel
Russell, George F. Parker, Moses P. Reed, Peter Cunningham, Richard
Parker, and Solomon Jackson, whose names are hereto subscribed, do
hereby form a body politic and corporate, pursuant to and in conformity
with the statutes of Virginia, in such cases made and provided—to wit:
The name and style of said corporation shall be known as the sons
and daughters of Solomon, of the state of Virginia, lodge number one.
2. The objects and purposes of this corporation are benevolent, chari-
table, and beneficial, mainly to bury the dead, administer to and aid
the aged and sick, and those in distress.
3. The officers of this corporation shall consist of a president, a vice-
president, an instructor, an advisor, a conductor, a treasurer, a secretary,
and a messenger, and also six directors, each and all of whom may hold
office one year, and shall be elected after the first year by a majority
vote of the members present at the time of such election. The officers
for the first year shall be George F. Parker, president; Peter Cunning-
ham, vice-president; Moses P. Reed, instructor; Richard Parker, advisor;
Ida Parker, treasurer; Samuel J. Russell, secretary; Solomon Jackson,
conductor; Matilda Cunningham, messenger, and the above named,
except Ida Parker and Matilda Cunningham, directors—all of said
officers being residents of King George county, Virginia.
4. This said corporation may establish branch lodges in King George
county, said branch lodges to be subject to the control, rules, and regu-
lations of this corporation. Such branch lodges may be organized by
the directors of this corporation, who may, for good and sufficient cause,
disband any such branch lodge.
5. This said corporation shall be invested only with the rights and
privileges conferred, and subject to the restrictions and regulations pre-
scribed by the general laws of Virginia for such corporations.
6. This said corporation may acquire and hold property, real and per-
sonal, such as may be necessary for its ordinary purposes, and shall have
power to make and adopt a constitution and by-laws for the government
of said corporation, rules and regulations for the admission and expulsion
of members, the assessment of dues from members, and the imposition of
fines against members; also rules and regulations for the election of
officers; to define the duties of officers and for the safe-keeping and pro-
tection of its property and funds: provided, the same shall be consistent
with the laws of Virginia.
%. The principal office of this corporation shall be in King George
county, Virginia, at a point near Carnation post-office.
8. This act shall be in force from its passage.
