Chap. 484.—An ACT to incorporate the help and protection society of King
George county, Virginia.
Approved February 21, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That C. P.
Pratt, president; Walter Muse, vice-president; Benjamin Peyton, senior,
chaplain; Francis Gray, secretary; Kliza ‘Thompson, treasurer; Joshua
Thompson, advisor, and all other persons who now or may hereafter be
associated with them, and their successors, shall be, and they are hereby,
constituted a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of the
help and protection society of King George county, Virginia, for the
purpose of providing for the poor, ministering to the sick, and burying
the dead of their order, and by said name shall have perpetual succes-
sion and a common seal, and may sue and be sued, and may enact a
constitution and by-laws for the election, government, and removal of
its officers, for the admission and expulsion of members, for the ac-
quisition and management of its property and the proper conduct of
its affairs, and for all other matters not inconsistent with this act and
the laws of this state, and may alter, amend, and repeal the same from
time to time; and may acquire and hold property, real, personal, and
mixed, by purchase, gift, or devise, and may appoint trustees to hold
and manage the same with authority to purchase, lease, hire, sell, alien,
mortgage, and exchange the same.
2. The amount of real estate to be held by said corporation shall not,
however, exceed two acres as a site for the buildings of the principal
lodge, and two acres as a site for the building of each subordinate lodge
and such lands as may be necessary and proper as cemeteries. The pur-
pose of said incorporation being entirely benevolent, its capital stock is
fixed at the nominal sum of five hundred dollars.
3. The principal place of business shall be at Good Hope, King George
county, Virginia, with authority to establish subordinate lodges through-
out the said county.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
