Chap. 48.—An ACT to incorporate Hampton lodge, number 366, benevolent
protective order of elks, Hampton, Virginia.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the persons
now and hereafter constituting the membership of Hampton lodge, num-
her three hundred and sixty-six, benevolent protective order elks, 01
Hampton, Virginia, a benevolent association, be, and they are hereby,
made and constituted a body politic and corporate, under the name and
style of “ Hampton lodge, number three hundred and sixty-six, benev-
olent protective order elks,” and by that name shall have perpetual
succession and a common seal, may contract and be contracted with, sue
and be sued, may acquire by gift, grant or purchase, and may receive,
hold and possess real and personal property, and, subject to the wishes
and under the direction of a majority of the members thereof in good
standing, according to the laws of the association, may rent, sell, convey,
invest, improve, encumber, and otherwise manage or dispose of the said
property, or any part or parts thereof, as to the said majority of members
may seem most conducive to the interests and promotion of the welfare
of the said lodge. And the said lodge, by a recorded vote of a majority
of its members in good standing, may borrow money and issue evidences
of debt therefor in such sums for such time and in such manner as to
the said majority may seem proper, and to secure the payment thereof.
The trustees of the said lodge, under the seal of the said lodge, are
authorized and empowered to execute and deliver deeds, deeds of trust
or mortgages upon the property, real or personal, or both, of the said
lodge: provided, that the amount of land acquired by the said lodge shall
not at anv one time exceed two acres, and that it shall be located in the
county of Elizabeth City, Virginia, and the amount of property so
acquired, both real and personal, shall not aggregate in value at any
time more than fifty thousand dollars.
2. That for the purposes of executing and carrying out the powers
hereby conferred on the said corporation, the trustees of the said lodge
shall be, and they are hereby, authorized to execute such papers and
instruments as may be necessary and proper under the direction of a
majority of the members of the said lodge in good standing, according
to the laws and regulations of that body, and to attach the seal of the
said lodge to such instruments and papers.
3. The property of the said lodge, so long as it is used only for the
mutual aid and assistance of its mombers and the elevation of the moral
and social standing thereof, shall be exempt from taxation.
4. All deeds and other writings conveying property or interests therein
to the said lodge shall he executed to the trustees thereof, to be held
by such trustees for the use and benefit of Hampton lodge, number three
hundred and sixty-six, benevolent protective order elks.
5. This act shall be in force from and after its passage.
