Chap. 451.—An ACT to provide for the indexing of deeds and other records in
Wise, Dickenson, and Buchanan county.
Approved February 20, 1900. °
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the county
courts of Wise, Dickenson, and Buchanan counties, of Virginia, be, and
are hereby, empowered to have the deed books, judgments, lien dockets,
execution books, and county court order books of their said respective
counties (that are not already indexed in Kilgore’s direct index and
reference books) indexed in same by employing to do said indexing Wil-
liam J. Kilgore, Lee Kilgore, D. C. Dean, R. D. Baker, C. A. Vance, and
John R. Gardner, of Wise, Virginia, at a compensation not exceeding
three dollars each per day of ten hours each; that said William J. Kilgore
be, and is hereby, authorized under such contract or contracts for said
indexing,.to place either or all of said persons on such index work as
he may deem expedient, and to have the supervision of said index work.
2. That the board of supervisors of the county in which said direct
and reference indexing is done shall provide in laying its county levy
a sufficient amount to pay for said indexing, together with the cost of
the necessary index books and necessary stationery that may be required
therefor.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
