Chap. 439.—An ACT to authorize the Hampton villa company to grade a
fill in its water-front, erect a pier, wharf, and bulkhead, and charge to
therefor.
Approved February 20, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the Ham
ton Roads villa company, a corporation created by and existing und
the laws of the state of Virginia, is hereby authorized and empower
to grade and fill in, to the line of navigability, along the water-front
its property and Maple avenue, the water-front of its property beg
ning at the intersection of the easterly line of Maple avenue with t
shore line of Hampton Roads or James river, near the city of Newpc
News, Virginia, and running thence in an easterly direction along t
shore line a distance of about six hundred and eighty-two feet.
2. It is further authorized and empowered to erect a wharf or pi
on its said water-front, and a bulkhead in connection therewith.
3. That the said company, its successors and assigns, shall have t
right to charge and receive reasonable fees, tolls, and wharfage, as
compensation for the use of its said wharf, piers, and bulkheads.
4. In the enjoyment of the powers by this act conferred, the sa
company shall not obstruct navigation, and shall not interfere wi
the property rights of individuals, but the said company may acqui!
by purchase or condemnation, in the manner prescribed by law, su
property and rights as may be necessary for the exercise and enjoyme
of the powers by this act conferred.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
