Chap. 438.—An ACT to incorporate Saint Leo’s Catholic club.
Approved February 20, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That A. H.
Felthaus, B. A. Grasberger, William H. Heeke, Frank F. Newheiser,
G. Sylvester Ross, W. H. Felthaus, George E. Schraudt, August H.
Bucker, Albert J. Meyer, Louis B. Hatke, and Edward R. Schraudt,
and such other persons as they shall associate with them, be, and they
are hereby, constituted a body corporate under the name and style of
Saint Leo’s Catholic club, of the city of Richmond, and by this name
and style shall be invested with perpetual succession, and have a com-
mon seal, and sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, and in all re-
spects shall be invested with the rights and privileges conferred, and
subject to the restrictions and regulations prescribed for corporations
by the laws of the state of Virginia, so far as the same may be appli-
cable to such an association and not inconsistent with this act.
2. The said Saint Leo’s Catholic club may purchase or receive bv
deed of gift or devise and hold or lease any real or personal estate, and
lease, rent, sell, or otherwise dispose of the same in such manner as
may seem most to the advantage of said association: provided, it shall
not hold real estate of value exceeding fifty thousand dollars.
3. The object of the said Saint Leo’s Catholic club shall be the culti-
vation and promotion of literary pursuits and social intercourse among
its members.
4. The said Saint Leo’s Catholic club shall have power to make a
adopt a constitution and by-laws, rules, and regulations for the adm:
istration and expulsion of its members, and for their government, t
election of its officers, and to define their duties, and for the sa
keeping and protection of its property and funds, and from time
time to alter and repeal such constitution, by-laws, rules, and regu
tions: provided, the same be not inconsistent with the constitution
the United States or of this state.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage, and be subject
amendment, alteration, or modification at the pleasure of the gene:
assembly.
