Chap. 43.—An ACT to prevent the obstruction of streams and promote the
drainage of dams in the county of Bedford.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That it shall
he unlawful for any person in the county of Bedford to cut or fell trees.
or in any manner obstruct with wood or timber any of the creeks and
rivers of said county, except in the manner provided by existing laws for
the erection of dams. And all persons having or owning dams across
said creeks or rivers, for any purpose whatsoever, shall open the flood-
gates of said dams once in every six months for the purpose of draining
<aid dams.
2. Any person violating any of the provisions of the foregoing section
sha]l, upon conviction thereof, be fined not less than five dollars nor
more than twenty-five dollars for each offense.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
