Chap. 417.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 3 of an act entitled an act
to authorize the construction by the Piedmont soapstone company of tram-
ways or railroads not exceeding twenty-five miles in length, and the en-
cumbering and disposal of the same, approved February 6, 1896, and to
confirm the charter of the said company and authorize a change of its name.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
three of an act entitled “an act to authorize the construction by the
Piedmont soapstone company of tramways or railroads not exceeding
twenty-five miles in length and the encumbering and disposal of the
same,” approved February sixth, eighteen hundred and ninety-six, be,
and the said section is, amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 3. The work of construction of any such railroad or tramroad shall
be completed within eight years from the passage of this amended act.’
2. Be it further enacted that the charter of the said company as
granted by order of the corporation court of the city of Charlottesville
entered on the twenty-third day of April, eighteen hundred and ninety-
five, and of record in the office of secretary of the commonwealth of
Virginia, be, and the said charter is hereby, confirmed and declared valid
in all respects; and the said corporation court may, upon the application
of the board of directors of the said company, by proper order, to be
recorded upon the books wherein charters are authorized to be recorded,
change the name of the said company, but such change to be without
prejudice to the rights, powers, and franchises of the said company or to
the rights of parties interested therein.
3. ‘lhis act shall be in force from its passage.
