Chap. 406.—An ACT to authorize the heirs at law of Edgar Snowden to redeem
a tract of land in Fairfax county, sold for taxes and levies assessed against
Rebecca M. Plummer’s trustee, and purchased by the commonwealth.

Whereas a tract of land in Fairfax county, containing eighty-four and
three-fourth acres, standing on the land books of said county in the name
of Rebecca M. Plummer’s trustee, was returned delinquent for certain
vears between eighteen hundred and seventy-six and eighteen hundred
and eighty-three, inclusive, and was sold for taxes and levies of said
years and purchased by the commonwealth; and
Whereas in the vear eighteen hundred and seventy-one, Edgar Snow-
Jen purchased said tract of land at a sale made under a deed of trust
executed by Rebecca M. Plummer: and
Whereas said Edgar Snowden died in the year eighteen hundred and
seventy-five and said tract of land descended to Louisa Snowden, his
widow, who has since died, and her heirs now desire to redeem said land;

Whereas the sum to be paid the clerk of the county court in redemp-
tion of said land, under the terms of section six hundred and sixty-four
of the code (as it has been amended), exceeds the value of said land;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the clerk
of the county court of Fairfax county be, and he is hereby, authorized
and instructed to receive from the heirs of Louisa Snowden, in redemp-
tion of said land, the amount for which the sale to the commonwealth
was made, together with such additional sums as would have accrued
from taxes and levies, upon a valuation of fifteen dollars per acre, 1f
the said land had not been purchased by the commonwealth, and shall
not exact payment of interest and penalties on said sums; and
Whereas said tract of land was entered on the land books of Fairfax
county in the name of said Rebecca M. Plummer’s trustee for the
vears eighteen hundred and eighty-four, eighteen hundred and eighty-
five, eichte ‘en hundred and eighty- SIX, ci¢htecn hundred and eightv-seven,
cichteen hundred and eighty -eight, ‘eighteen hundred and eighty- nine,
eighteen hundred and ninety, eivhteen hundred and ninety-one, eigh-
teen hundred and ninety 490, civhteen hundred and ninety- five, and
eighteen hundred and ninety-six, and taxes and levies extended thereon,
and was entered on said land book in the name of Edgar Snowden for
years eighteen hundred and ninety-one, eighteen hundred and ninety-
{wo, cihteen hundred and ninety- three, eishteen hundred and ninety-
four, ci¢hteen hundred and ninety-five, and ciehteen hundred and ninetv-
SIX, and taxes and levies extended thereon, and none of the taxes and
levies so extended have been paid, the clerk of said county court is
directed, when said land is redeemed by the heirs of Louisa Snowden, to
note the fact on the records of his office, that said assessments of taxes
and levies on said land against Rebecca M. Plummer’s trustee and Louisa
Snowden, are not valid assessments but null and void; and
Whereas said tract was assessed to Edgar Snowden on the land books
of Fairfax county for the years eighteen hundred and nincty-seven,
eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and eighteen hundred and ninety-
nine, and taxes and levies assessed thereon, and said taxes and levies so
assessed against Edgar Snowden have been paid, the clerk of the county
court of Fairfax county shall note the fact of such payment on the
records of his office and shall not include the sums which would have
accrued from taxes and levies on said land for the years eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-seven, eighteen hundred and ninety- -eight, and eighteen
hundred and ninety-nine in ascertaining the amount to be paid by the
heirs of Louisa Snowden in redemption of said land.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
