Chap. 339.—An ACT to protect wooden bridges in the county of Rockbridge
from fire by steam engines passing over the same.
Approved February 14, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That any
person who moves an engine with steam over any of the wooden bridges
across streams in the county of Rockbridge, such bridges being crossed
by the public roads of the said county, shall provide a competent person.
whose duty it shall be to remain at such bridge for fifteen minutes after
such engines shall have passed over the same, and see that such bridge
has not been set on fire by the sparks or fire from such engine.
2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this act shall, on
conviction thereof, by any justice of the said county, be fined not "less
than five dollars nor more than twenty dollars by the justice hearing
such complaint.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
