Chap. 285.—An ACT to incorporate the Virginia club.
Approved February 6, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Saint
Julian Oppenhimer, N. Thomas Mosby, E. H. Ferguson, Julian Bryant,
G. B. Gaines, John Adams, Charles L. Brown, Virginius W. Harrison,
Guy Cherry, Henry Allen, Charles Meagher, John R. Charleton, Frank
W. Cunningham, J. Taylor Curtis, and Walter F. Mahoney, and such
other persons as are now associated as the Virginia club, or mav here-
after become associated with them, are hereby constituted a body cor-
porate, by the name of the Virginia club, to be located in the city of
Richmond, for the promotion of social intercourse and for the purpose
of maintaining a library and reading room.
2. The said corporation shall have power to make and adopt a con-
stitution and by-laws, rules and regulations for the admission and ex-
pulsion of its members, and their government; the election of its officers,
.nd to define their duties, for holding general and special meetings of its
members for the transaction of business, at any and all of which said
meetings its members shall have the right to vote in person or by proxy;
and for the safe-keeping and protection of its property and funds, and
from time to time to alter or repeal such constitution, by-laws, rules and
regulations: provided, that the same be not inconsistent with the consti-
tution and laws of the United State or the state of Virginia.
3. The said corporation may purchase, lease, hold or dispose of any
real or personal estate: provided, that they shall not hold real estate
i excess of five acres of land; and said corporation may borrow money
upon its property, both real and personal, and may issue bonds with
interest, coupons attached, therefor, and may secure the same by deed
of trust, mortgages or otherwise.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage, and be subject to
amendment, alteration, or modification at the pleasure of the general
assembly of Virginia.
