Chap. 239.—An ACT authorizing the auditor of public accounts to issue a
warrant to F. Sale and J. W. Austin for the payment of twenty-five dollars
for services rendered by them in making an autopsy on the body of Edward
Smith, deceased.
Approved February 3, 1900.
Whereas F. Sale, doctor of medicine, and J. W. Austin, doctor of
medicine, did, in August, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, make an
autopsy on the body of one Edward Smith, who died from strychnine
poisoning, administered by one Lula Smith, who was convicted in the
county court of Bedford county, for the murder of said Edward Smith
by strychnine poisoning; and
Whereas there is no provision of law authorizing the auditor of public
accounts to make payment of said sum for said services; and
Whereas the payment of said sum has been recommended by the judge
of the county court of Bedford county and by the commonwealth’s
attorney of said county; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That said sum
of twenty-five dollars be paid to the said F. Sale, doctor of medicine.
and J. W. Austin, doctor of medicine, for said services, and the auditor
of public accounts is hereby directed to draw an order in favor of said
F. Sale and J. W. Austin for said sum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
