Chap. 231.—An ACT to incorporate Monroe encampment, number 27, inde-
pendent order of odd-fellows, of Phcoebus, Elizabeth City county, Virginia.
Approved January 30, 1900.
1. Re it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That Joseph
G@. Fulton, M. TI. Haas, Frank Beech, W. F. Larrabee, T. V. Turney,
James Mitchell, and James D. Winnie, senior, officers and the members
of Monroe encampment. number twenty-seven, independent order of
odd-fellows, of Pheebus, Elizabeth City county, Virginia, and their suc-
cessors, be, and they are hereby, declared to be a corporation and body
politic, by the name, style, and title of Monroe encampment, number
twenty-seven, independent order of odd-fellows, and by that name mav
sue, and be sucd, plead, and be impleaded in all courts of this state and
elsewhere, and have perpetual succession; may make, have and use a com-
mon seal, and change the same at pleasure; and shall be capable in law
to have, receive and hold by purchase, gift, devise, or bequest real or
personal estate and lease, rent, sell, or otherwise dispose of the same,
in such manner as may be advantageous: provided always, that said cor-
poration, or body politic, shall not at any time hold or possess property—
real, personal, or mixed—exceeding in value five thousand dollars.
