Chap. 209.—An ACT to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to au-
thorize the town of Berryville, Virginia, to borrow twenty-five thousand
dollars to construct water-works, approved December 18, 1899.
Approved January 29, 1900.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That an act
titled “an act to authorize the town of Berryville, Virginia, to borrow
enty-five thousand dollars to construct water-works, approved Decem-
r eighteenth, eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, be amended and re-
acted so as to read as follows: That the council of the town of Berry-
le, Virginia, be, and it is hereby, authorized to borrow money and
ue its bonds therefor, bearing interest and payable at such times as
may determine: provided, the amount borrowed does not exceed
twenty-five thousand dollars, and the rate of interest does not exceed six
per centum per annum.
2. Said council is hereby authorized to use the money so borrowed in
the construction of water-works for said town.
3. In order to provide for the payment of the principal and interest
of the bonds so to be issued, the said council is authorized to levy a
special tax on all the property, real and personal, licenses, and all other
subjects of taxation for municipal purposes, which tax shall not exceed
one-half the taxes imposed by said town for all other purposes.
4. At an election held in said town on the twenty-ninth dav of June,
eighteen hundred and ninety-nine, a majority of the qualified voters
of said town having authorized the council of said town to borrow the
sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, and to issue the bonds of the town
for the same, for the purpose of constructing water-works for said town,
section one of chapter nine of an act entitled “an act to provide a new
charter for the town of Berryville,” approved March third, eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-eight, is as to the bonds hereby authorized to be issued
under this act herehy repealed.
5. This act shall be in force from its passage.
