Chap. 190.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of
Mathews county, their successors in office, or their agent to bid for and
purchase certain real estate, now advertised for sale by the sheriff of
Mathews county, belonging to Walter Hudgins, Elijah Buchanan, W. J.
Callis, and Laban Hudgins, and if they should purchase to resell and make
-o the purchaser a good and valid deed.

Whereas on the ninth day of October, eighteen hundred and ninety-
ne, the county of Mathews obtained a judgment against L. C. Thomas,
‘e treasurer of Mathews county, and W. J. Callis, George B. Thomas,
_ H. Foster, Elijah Buchanan, R. E. Edwards, W. G. Hudgins, John
Bohannon, Laban Hudgins, George W. Hudgins, and J. P. Blake, sure-
3 on his official bond, for the sum of three thousand one hundred and
enty-three dollars and thirty-one cents, and twelve dollars and twenty-
ne cents costs, subject to certain credits; and
Whereas the sheriff of Mathews county has levied upon the real estate
longing to Walter Hudgins, Elijah Buchanan, W. J. Callis, and Laban
udgins, sureties as aforesaid, and advertised the same for sale at public
ction in the county of Mathews, on the day of February, nine.
en hundred, to satisfy the judgments in favor of the state of Virginia

Whereas the board of supervisors of Mathews county, believing itself
thout legal means to recover the said amount of money for the county
oresaid save in the purchase of the said property so advertised; there-

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the board
- supervisors of Mathews county, their successors in office, or their
rent, be, and is hereby, authorized and empowered to purchase the real
tate, or so much thereof as may be necessary, belonging to the said

athews, with full power after purchase to sell the same and make to

2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
