Chap. 1457.—An ACT for the relief of John C. Mayhew.

Whereas John C. Mayhew, a soldier in the Confederate service from
the county of Franklin, state of Virginia, while serving in the late war
in company G, seventy-third regiment of Virginia infantry, was
wounded at the battle of Matoax about September twenty-eighth, eigh-
teen hundred and sixty-four, by a bullet wound in the right shoulder;
and
Whereas as the result of this wound there has ensued a tumorous
growth upon the said shoulder, which has assumed such great propor-
tions that the right arm is now practically useless; and
Whereas as the result of this injury so received the said Mayhew, who
is a poor man without means, is unable to support himself by manual
labor; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
auditor of public accounts be, and he hereby is, directed and empowered
to list the said Mavhew, to receive from the state an annual pension of
fifteen dollars a vear.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
