Chap. 1448.—An ACT for the relief of J. M. Comby, a Confederate soldier, of
Halifax county.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas J. M. Comby, of Halifax county, was a true and gallant Con-
federate soldier in the late war between the states, a member of com-
pany }, thirty-fourth Virginia regiment, and was loyal to Virginia;
and
Whereas he was severely wounded in battle, from which he has never
recovered; and
Whereas he is not able to do manual labor, and is old, poor, and
under the general law can only receive the sum of fifteen dollars per
annum, which he now deserves; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
said J. M. Comby shall be permitted to prove before the county court
of Halifax the facts stated above, or any other material facts, by the
best evidence obtainable, and upon such proof being adduced before the
said court, said court shall certify the same to the auditor of public ac-
counts, who is hereby authorized to place the name of the said J. M.
Comby on the pension roll with those now drawing fifteen dollars, and
pay him annually that sum, on and after the first day of April, nineteen
hundred.
