Chap. 1437.—An ACT for the relief of James G. Lester, a Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas James G. Lester was a Confederate soldier of company I,
fiftv-fourth regiment of Virginia infantry, was a gallant soldier during
the war, and was loval to Virginia; and
Whereas he is now sixty-seven years of age; partially paralyzed, and
also badly ruptured, so that he is incapacitated from manual labor;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
county court of Montgomery county shall examine into the condition of
the said James G. Lester, and if it shall appear that he was true and
loyal to Virginia through the war, that he is now old and afilicted,
that he is poor and without means and should receive aid from Virginia,
and if the county court of Montgomery certifies these facts to the
auditor of public accounts, then the said auditor is directed to place
the name of the said James G. Lester on the pension list, and pay him
annually the sum of fifteen dollars, on and after the first day of April,
nineteen hundred.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
