Chap. 1413.—An ACT for the relief of Mrs. Bettie Gouldman, widow of a
Confederate soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas James T. Gouldman, of King George county, was a brave
and gallant Confederate soldier in company E, fifty-fifth regiment
Virginia volunteers; and
Whereas the said James T. Gouldman died a few years ago leaving
a widow, Mistress Bettie Gouldman, who is well advanced in years and
wholly dependent upon the proceeds of a small and unproductive farm,
which she shares with two maiden sisters, one of whom is an invalid
from age and disease, and has been for years a burden on Mistress
Bettie Gouldman; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
said Bettie Gouldman, widow of a Confederate soldier, shall be per-
mitted to prove before the county court of King George the above
facts, or any other material fact, by the best evidence obtainable; and
upon such proof being adduced before said court, the said court shall
certify the same to the auditor of public accounts, who is hereby au-
thorized and directed to place the name of Bettie Gouldman upon the
pension rolls of the state, and to draw her warrant annually in due
form of law, in favor of said Bettie Gouldman for the payment of a
pension of fifteen dollars per annum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
