Chap. 1409.—An ACT for the relief of James C. Wood, a disabled Confederate
soldier.
Approved March 7, 1900.
Whereas James C. Wood, a disabled Confederate soldier of the Flu-
vanna artillery, company of Colonel William Nelson’s battalion, was
a good and faithful soldier during the late sectional war, and has ever
been true and loyal to Virginia; and
Whereas from distressing rhecumatisin and decrepitude, ageravated,
if not produced, by exposure in the service during the war and while
confined in a prison at Point Lookout, he, being now about seventy
years of age, is incapacitated from making a living by manual labor
and is in needy and distressful circumstances and deserving aid from
the state; therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the county
court of Fluvanna, in which county the said James C. Wood resides,
do examine into the condition of the said Wood, and if it shall find that
the statements above in recital made are true, it shall make an order
to that effect and cause a copy thereof to be certified by its clerk to
the auditor of public accounts of Virginia, whereupon the said auditor
shall place the name of the said James C. Wood on the pension rolls
and cause to be issued to him annually a warrant on the treasurer
of Virginia for the sum of fifteen dollars, commencing on the first
dav of April, nineteen hundred. .
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
