Chap. 1404.—An ACT for the relief of Alexander Woodall, a Confederate
soldier, of Henry county.

Whereas Alexander Woodall, a citizen of Henry county, Virginia.
now seventy-seven years of age and unmarried, was, in the war between
the states a true and loyal soldier of Virginia, in the military service
of the Confederacy, having volunteered in June, eighteen hundred
and sixty-one, in company I, commanded by Captain A. J. Smith, Pitt-
sylvania county, Virginia, serving in regiment commanded by Colonel
Armistead; and
Whereas the said Alexander Woodall served during the war, and was
in Richmond, Virginia, detained by sickness when General Lee sur-
rendered; and
Whereas said Alexander Woodall is a man of integrity, but on ac-
count of his age and infirmity is unable to make a support by physical
labor, has no one to look to for help, and has no material property;
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
said Alexander Woodall, so soon as he shall prove the foregoing facts
before the county court of Henry county and such proof shall be certi-
fied to the auditor of public accounts, shall be entitled to and shall
receive annually out of the treasury of Virginia upon the warrant
of the auditor of public accounts, the sum of fifteen dollars in con-
sideration of his services to the state as Confederate soldier as afore-
said.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
